18 Oct 14 successful profile trips, autumn holidays and new adventures
Dear reader!
The autumn holidays came as a well-deserved respite for everyone at Ranum Efterskole and a good opportunity to recharge the batteries for the next exciting chapter in the afterschool year. Pupils and teachers returned home over the weekend from 14 different and successful profile trips. We have had more than 350 students and teachers and again we were spared any serious accidents or pedagogical issues. It was mao a very good start to the school year's travel activities. I hope you have been following each profile's facebook groups; e.g., Sailing Ranum Efterskole, Diving Ranum Efterskole, Adventure Ranum Efterskole, Drama Ranum Efterskole, Media Ranum Efterskole, Street performance Ranum Efterskole, Water performance Ranum Efterskole, Dive and plunge Ranum Efterskole, Visual design Ranum Efterskole, Riding Ranum Efterskole, Guide and event Ranum Efterskole, Gastronomy Ranum Efterskole and Music Ranum Efterskole.
On these pages, you can see pictures and read about the many exciting challenges and experiences the students have faced on their journey. The Adventure students received a fantastic welcome at the Utsikten Friendship School and High School, where their Nature Guide students provided an exciting and educational programme in nature. The diving students had a great trip to Turkey, which could well compete with Egypt. The students completed their training in Padi Open Water and also went on a cultural visit to the Turkish community.
In Berlin, Media, Music, Visual Design and Street Performance also explored the underground cultures of the metropolis and got up close to the unique creative environments that inspire trendsetters around the world.
Drama were the first to travel out and wait satiated by the theater, musicals and workshops home already Thursday. Waterperformance was in Turkey and despite one student getting a concussion, reports of a great surf and wakeboard environment and an overall great trip. The sailing team arrived home late Saturday afternoon, and although the trip was marked by some rain, the sailors kept their spirits high and visited a lot of harbours and the KRKA National Park with its amazing waterfall.
The guide and event also had some rain in Italy, but it was just another learning experience for the student guides in creating an exciting program for each other. The riding team was challenged in the mountains of Austria and also managed to visit Vienna.
Dive and Plunge has written about the most luxurious catches and dinners, and while few envied them having to go to dark and cold Tromsø, it seems the weather has been kind to them. In Copenhagen, the students of Gastronomy had a huge success when they were in charge of creating a restaurant serving some 75 people in the premises of Mellemfolkelig Samvirkes on Fælledvej. The Facebook page is full of praise and it's great that young people can show that they can really perform and get good feedback for it.
Our Thai guest students also had a great cultural trip to Copenhagen and they are now staying with a host family of students from the after-school programme. That was a very brief update from the travel week, and again I encourage you to follow along on the facebook pages and here on the website as the students get their pictures, films and stories together for their final presentations to their peers and parents in the coming week.
The 2nd profile period is now being framed. At the time of writing, only the tickets for Peru have not been booked, and we have managed to get very good prices for many of them. In week 43 we will set the final timetable for the cultural profile subject period and there will be both joint projects with e.g. Performance and Drama Week, as well as periods of independent study in each subject. Ahead of us is a period with a new and exciting focus for many students, which offers the opportunity to open up new questions and gain knowledge about society, religion, politics and, not least, how life is lived in other parts of the world.
In the coming week we have a visit from our Thai guest students and we are looking forward to sharing our everyday life and school with them. On Friday, the first academic reports and grades will be given, which will then be available to parents and pupils on the School Plan. On Friday evening, the Student and Parent Council will hold the first student party - with more than 270 people registered. The school has nothing to do with the organisation of the party, but we are delighted that more than 40 parents have volunteered to organise a great party for the young people and that they have also taken the positive decision to make the party the first ever smoke-free student party.
Saturday is the reunion weekend and the programme is available on the website. We expect a lot of old students to drop by and look forward to seeing you for a nice afternoon!
During the autumn holidays we have renovated some facades and installed district heating in theærhuset. The floors have also been polished and waxed, and in the Sweat Lodge the entire floor has been varnished. This means that pupils and staff are now very welcome to bring indoor / slippers and use them, so that we avoid too much autumn dust in the corridors. Lights have been installed on the two paths between the Grove House and the Seminary House and we are generally well prepared for the dark season.
This coming weekend there will be a tour of interested new students on Sunday at 14. And there is the possibility to book times for next Thursday also on the internet.
Best regards and have a great autumn holiday and a great weekend!
