Beautiful week with a lot of outdoor life

Dear reader!
It has been a beautiful week with a lot of fun and outdoor activities. The Friends Weekend was a great success with around 450 young people gathered for a whole weekend, with a great atmosphere and lots of fun community activities. A bunch of former students were on the youth guide course and helped make the weekend a success.

The new profile magazine has been released in a new design with lots of stories and pictures from efterskolelife at Ranum Efterskole College.

In the morning gatherings we have focused on sustainability and worked with the individual's responsibility in everyday life to save energy, water and perhaps act more sustainably. We have watched small awareness films and made a survey about the students' behaviour around light and electricity in the school. In the kitchen, Lars Jeppesen has focused on food waste, including weighing all leftovers after main meals.

It made a certain impression on everyone that the waste costs between 3-400.000 DKK in a school year. Afterwards, Lars gave a presentation to the students, in which he started by calling the students and yours truly pigs. Fortunately, he elaborated and gave really good ideas on how we can work mentally to put too much food on our plates. The various presentations have given food for thought and were also a good prelude to Thursday's harvest festival, where we celebrate that the harvest has arrived and have food made from local produce.

A good flow in the lessons & the local patriots

In the book classes, there is good attention to homework and assignments, and there is a good flow in the lessons. The vote in Scotland for independence galvanised local patriots on both sides of the stone walls. However, the dispute was quickly settled and instead pupils threw themselves into the international campaign.

Adventure on MTB

In the profile subjects, the students have had a lot of outdoor activities. The adventure team was in Rønbjerg on Thursday and challenged the military obstacle course on MTB. Dive and Plunge went underwater hunting in Rønbjerg and came home with the most beautiful black lobsters. In Visual Design, the students are working on a large decoration project for the Seminary House, among other things.

Printing of new newspaper

The media team was in Aalborg on Thursday to follow the printing of the school's new profile newspaper. It was printed at Nordjyske and will be published with the newspaper on Sunday. The students also took home 8,000 newspapers, which we hope they and many former students will help distribute to interested parties. The newspaper can also be read electronically here - link.

Fun run in Vester Hornum

A number of students have participated in the Vester Hornum races, and there was a great camaraderie around these experiences.

Pedagogical & Professional Travel

Pedagogically, we can feel that the students have settled into after-school life well. Most students have gotten used to the rhythm of school and the practical tasks such as cleaning have become routine. The coming weekend is free on Monday and it is very important that everyone gets the last practical things sorted for the upcoming profile trips in week 41. It is particularly important that all students have a blue health insurance card.

The second sample selection for the cultural profile subjects was a success in the sense that everyone used their vote. A list of the most popular cultural subjects has now been drawn up and these are being described in more detail so that students have a good basis for choosing their next challenges. The selection should be completed by 1 October, as we need to book flights and be ready for the start-up a few weeks after the autumn holidays.

Harvest Festival

The Harvest Festival was a great evening, with a great atmosphere and very authentic costumes. The wildest rodeo bulls and line dancing for all. It creates a great atmosphere that there is straw everywhere, but at the same time it is a huge challenge to get it all together again.

The following weekend is a Friday to Saturday Parents and Family Day with fun, activities and talks with the contact teacher. Parents are allowed to stay overnight in their rooms and students sleep in the halls or other rooms. Saturday is also the profile day and the opportunity to learn more about the upcoming trips, as well as the choice for the new cultural subjects. The registration deadline is on Tuesday via the school timetable.

Open House

Sunday the 28th is Open House and we will be open from 10 am to 6 pm. This is 4 hours longer than usual, but we are experiencing so much demand that we would like to spread out the activities and visits a bit more. We offer an international breakfast from 10-11am, and throughout the day there will be tours by students and presentations about the school's values and international offerings. There will also be many profile subject activities and the opportunity to have a chat with a teacher while enjoying refreshments in one of the houses or in the main square. All students are involved in the day and it gives a really good energy and feeling to show your own afterschool.

Best regards and have a nice weekend
