16 Sep Family weekend, Vilsted Lake Running and harvest festival
Dear reader,
It's been a great weekend and week with family visits, Vilsted Sø race, auditions for cultural subjects and a great harvest festival. Summer is back and even though many students are tired after almost 3 weeks of intense afterschool life, the atmosphere and temperature are great!
Family weekend
From Friday to Saturday, more than 350 family members enjoyed various activities. We held Nepal banko with great gifts, community gatherings and then participated in the 2nd Vilsted Lake race. In the afternoon, the profile subjects were in full swing, with students presenting and instructing in their subjects.
Vilsted Sø Løbet 2016
A total of 1050 people participated in the race and the beautiful weather meant that everyone had a really nice nature experience along Vilsted Lake. The paths along the lake are newly renovated and there was great praise for the organizers Lions Club for a fine event.
Sustainability Week
During the week we focused on sustainability and we had 3 days of very exciting vegetarian food, so the students could experience that meat is not always necessary on the plate. We are also running a campaign to collect and sort plastic, and we have added herbs to all the beds and pot plants.
Election to Cultural Studies
Over the last 3 weeks, we have been informing about the many proposals for Cultural Studies in the assemblies and in workshops, as well as in orientation meetings. During the week, the students carried out a sample vote, which showed that there is very broad support for almost all cultural subjects and trips.
Together with teachers and students, we have designed a Cultural Magazine describing the different options, and students and parents will now make the final choice together. It will be exciting and the choice ends on Sunday 25 September.
When you need to pay for the trip, it can easily be done on the shop.
Visit from AFS Thailand
On Tuesday, we had a distinguished visit from the board of AFS Thailand, they visited Ranum to experience the afterschool and meet the students who follow the year program.

The Guide and Event team organised a fantastic harvest party for the whole school on Thursday evening. Students and teachers were dressed up traditional harvest festival, and there were a lot of activities going on including western dance, rodeo riding and nice barbecue dinner in the houses. Events next week
This coming week we have Monday off and the students will meet again at 18.00.
During the week, we have both preparations for the Profilfags trips in week 40 and the Open House event. Saturday is a teaching day and we focus on intercultural experiences and have visits from several former students who have used ranum as a launching pad for various adventures around the world.
Open House - Afterschool Day.
On Sunday the 25th of September we will hold an Open House for all interested and there will be the opportunity to sign up for a fantastic afterschool year. The students will show you around, tell you about their profile subjects and there will be the opportunity to talk about afterschool life and academics with the teachers in the café.
The gastronomy team and the kitchen will provide an international breakfast table from 10-11 am and afterwards there will be many different culinary experiences from different parts of the world in the square.
We will be open from 10.00 and at 10.30 there will be a big welcome assembly in the banquet hall, where you can also hear the school's values, profile subjects and academic programmes, and in the Gold Horn Hall we will tell you about the international programme.
We are very excited to showcase our beautiful school and hope that you will tell neighbours, friends and colleagues about the chance to visit Ranum Efterskole College. Places are still available for the 2017-18 school year.
