International Evening, Full Host Weekend & Northern Lights over Ranum

Dear reader,

Diversity, togetherness and good views are just a few words to describe this week at Ranum Efterskole College. But fortunately, we can use many more words to describe this week's activities in this newsletter. In this week's newsletter, you can read about the diversity that spread to the International Evening, Full Host Weekend with an excursion to Skagen, the Northern Lights over Ranum, and all the exciting activities that take place across our many subjects.

Would you like to hear even more about efterskolelivet? Then you can visit Ranum on Sunday 24 September between 10-17 at Efterskolernes Dag! Sign up here and look forward to a day where you can hear about your options at Ranum Efterskole College.

Really good reading. We hope to see you at Efterskolernes Dag!

International Evening

On Wednesday evening, diversity blossomed as we in Ranum focused on the international life at the school, and especially the international students. Students from 17 different countries prepared food, competitions, dance performances, face painting, workshops and lots of music in the school premises. We all got closer to the different nationalities and gained a better understanding of the world's different cultures while enjoying delicious food.

Our international students who were honoured to host the International Evening come from India, Mexico, Turkey, Germany, the Netherlands, USA, Denmark, Thailand, Cambodia, Iceland, Vietnam, China, Latvia, United Kingdom, Greenland, Spain and the Faroe Islands.

Full Host Weekend

The Full Host students have now spent their second long weekend together, where the programme included a pleasant hike in Råbjerg Mile and the top of Denmark, as well as exploring the fine paintings of the Skagen painters at Skagen Museum. Later, Full Host's programme includes a Christmas holiday in Estonia, a long weekend in Gothenburg and a wonderful trip to Copenhagen.

Adventure

In Adventure, they made an experimental dish. Cake in an orange! In addition, they spent a lot of lovely time on water and over a warm fire.

Northern lights over Ranum

On Monday evening, the week started off magically with the energy-rich Northern Lights over Ranum.

Basketball in Aarhus

Great entertainment in Aarhus with the Bakken Bears.

Skills Sailing

Skills, team 1, has sailed from Skive to Grenå. They arrived at Hals harbour at 11 pm after a good final sail in the dark with many different beacons and tall ships to identify and navigate between. Team 2 will take over the task and continue southwards. Skills team 2 sailed from Tunø to Middlefart. Below you can see pictures from both teams 1 and 2.

Cosy up over scones and Earl Grey

In Baking, students enjoyed tea time with scones and Earl Grey.

Maritime career day

P1 Sailing has been to Maritime Career Day in Frederikshavn.

Adventure Paddling

Adventure sent paddling for different types of water! First, we braved the wind and paddled across Vildsted Lake to the beginning of Bjørnholm Å. We went down the very narrow river with lots of shallow rocks (lots of challenges and fun) before entering the calm part of the Danish primeval forest. The last leg of the trip was paddling through to the sea, which met us with big waves for a small canoe. We can safely say that we all got a taste of the water from above and below!

Headmaster's column

The extended weekend was good for both students and staff. We employees spent Thursday and Friday on Læsø, where we focused on sustainability themes and the school's development, and learnt how the beautiful island can be used in countless profile subjects. A total of 79 employees participated in the Læsø trip, which attracted some attention in the local newspaper Læsø Posten.

Even though the autumn weather was very rough this week with storms and heavy rain, the students have been busy with lots of activities. Among other things, Skills Sailing is on a cruise with the beautiful ship Rosaline, and the profile subject Sailing has been to Martec in Frederikshavn for the Maritime Fair. Adventure went on a trip to Urhehøje and the football girls won. The boarding school's values of community and diversity really took centre stage at the international evening, where the students showed off their cultural backgrounds to each other. This creates a magical and adventurous atmosphere that awakens curiosity to explore other cultures and countries. This is very relevant as students will be confirming their choice of cultural subjects for the October-January period this coming week.

This weekend, most of the students are at the school on Saturday and Sunday, where we are ready to show interested future students around on Efterskolernes Dag. For the next two weeks, the principal is on a sailing trip in Greece and the rest of the management team is running the school, and the focus is on getting everyone off to a good start on the upcoming profile subject trips in week 41.

Have a great weekend. And maybe we'll see you on Efterskolernes Dag.

Olav Storm.
