Dear reader,
2023 is now coming to an end, but before that we are celebrating our first half year together with year 20 at Ranum Efterskole College. We celebrate 2023 in the name of Christmas with a Christmas service in Ranum church and the annual Christmas ball dressed in our finest clothes. We sang in choir "If we take the chance and if we manage to go together, it will work out" from Time Travel. And that's exactly what we've managed to achieve together at efterskolen. New friendships have been formed in the town of Ranum, and together we can walk hand in hand into the new year.

Christmas service
“Merry Christmas, merry Christmas, angels descend into hiding!". - This was sung to B.S. Ingemann's fine words at Ranum Church in preparation for the Christmas ball that followed. The students gathered in Ranum Church at 16.00-17.00, where we sang hymns together with our choir and had the Christmas gospel read aloud by the priest. A fantastic atmosphere was created in the church with smiles, togetherness and the exchange of hugs.
Christmas Ball
At 17.00, the doors were opened to long strings of lights, red glittering dresses and a delicious Christmas buffet. Our annual Christmas ball started with a Christmas speech from our principal, Olav Storm, who literally formed a starry sky with the students all over the hall. The school band played its sound with festive songs while the students danced around the big Christmas tree. We had a wonderful evening, which ended with a big fireworks show at 21.00.
Thank you to everyone who lent a hand at the Christmas Ball and created a memorable evening for the students at Ranum Efterskole College!

Healthy Living weekend
The students spent their last weekend at school before the Christmas holidays in the healthier corner. A Healthy Living weekend was organised, where a delicious brunch was served and there was the opportunity to go to Rønbjerg for a swim and a sauna afterwards.

The end-of-year celebrations culminated in a Christmas tree party and fireworks display, where the whole town was invited to see - and hear.
It has been a great autumn for Ranum's students and staff, and especially the focus on raising awareness about our use of mobile phones has succeeded better than expected. We would have liked to have had more mobile-free weeks, but in the last few weeks we had to prioritise allowing students to use their mobile cameras to produce their OSO presentations. These went according to plan and everyone in Year 10 was ready for the end of term Christmas party in Ranum Church and the Christmas party. The first week after the holidays starts mobile-free.
In my speech at the community gathering, the theme was "gratitude". It's not an easy topic to present to teens, but it resonated well in terms of feeling gratitude for having the freedom to be together in 1TP5 Life, living in a peaceful country and being able to make your own choices.
And in gratitude, the word thank you also recognises those who give us freedom in our lives. Therefore, the final challenge to the students and all of us was to remember that little word, thank you, during the festive season.
