29 Nov Performance Week, Little Nobel Prize, Coral Fair in Holland, Football referee and flashback to our ski trip.
Dear reader,
This week has been filled with a special kind of energy at Ranum Efterskole College. Our students have been immersed in an exciting performance week, where creativity has been at the forefront. The highlight of the week will be a spectacular show alongside a cosy Christmas market on Saturday.
Beyond the performance week, our students have also made their mark outside of school. Two of our talented students were involved in receiving the award for the 'Little Nobel Prize' at the Johannes V. Jensen Museum in Farsø. They have written impressive short stories on the theme of 'On the Edge'.
Meanwhile, a team of students has participated in the Vivarium 2024 fair in the Netherlands to showcase, among other things, our beautiful corals. On Tuesday, our aspiring football referees will be taking their exam. We wish them all the best!
Read more in this week's newsletter. Have a wonderful weekend.
Little Nobel Prize at Johannes V. Jensen Museum in Farsø. 2nd and 3rd place.
On Saturday there was an award ceremony for the small Nobel Prize at Johannes V. Jensen Museum in Farsø. Here, students submitted short stories on the theme "On the edge". Cecilie and Freya from Ranum Efterskole won 2nd and 3rd place respectively with some super fine short stories. Elisa, who came all the way from Amager, won the 1st prize for a funny story with a surprising plot twist. Congratulations to them all!
After the award ceremony, Kim Blæsbjerg, who has just published the novel "The Best Families" - which has also won the Golden Laurel Award - gave a very interesting speech about, among other things, research in relation to Cheminova (the subject of the novel) and the work processes he uses as an author. Thanks to the museum for a great event.
On an adventure in the Netherlands! Coral Lab travelled to Vivarium 2024 to showcase our amazing corals.
This past weekend a representative group of students travelled to the Netherlands to be present at the Vivarium 2024 fair.
They showed the visitors how they work on coral restoration and explained the diversity of options that REC offers.
So much good vibes, rewarding work and long-lasting memories
The football referee trainees were excited about the exam on Tuesday.
The trainee judges have completed their theory lessons and are now preparing individually for their exam on Tuesday.
The last 4 days have been very educational and full of questions, debates and individual development as a referee. After, hopefully, passing the exam, the students will go through 3 development matches before they are finally trained as football referees.
A big thank you to our instructor from DBU (Stig), who has been excellent with the student group.
A little teaser for the Christmas market on Saturday
The day before our big day tomorrow is buzzing with life. We have a lot on the programme, including a Christmas market. Several students have been hard at work on it. So here's a little behind-the-scenes teaser of how some of the Christmas decorations have taken shape.
Performance and culture day tomorrow Saturday
All the students and staff involved are currently working hard to get everything ready for tomorrow. There's a big Christmas market and a big performance production, which this year is called "Ranum Musical", and everything it takes to get the school ready for the big performance day. All students' parents and siblings are invited. We look forward to showing it all off.
Fun on the slopes ahead! We're counting down to our ski trip in January.
Soon we'll be heading out on our big group trip to Sweden for skiing and snowboarding. It's from 5 January to 12 January. To get in the mood for the trip, we've been by the archive. In 2022 we were in Kvitfjell with 400 students. You can see it here.
Headmaster's column
Dear reader,
Performance week is in full swing and we're working frantically to get ready for tomorrow, Saturday, when many parents and siblings will come for the Christmas market, musical, cultural subject presentations and school-home talks with the contact teacher.
The whole school has been buzzing with life and activity, with students involved in a wide variety of projects.
The musical has occupied many students, others have decorated the school, done activities in nature, tested the limits with winter swimming etc.
An Imagination and Performance Week can do something special when it comes to letting go of "school life" and being creative in new communities.
It's great to feel the energy and anticipation of helping each other and doing something good for others.
The Christmas Market teams have produced a whole bunch of Christmas goodies, and we really hope that parents and grandparents are in a shopping mood, as all sales go to the various charity projects that the students visit on the Cultural Journeys.
This year we have also invited you to a fundraiser for Children - Youth and Grief, which helps our young people who have lost a family member. You can donate amounts on mobilepay 0275GF.
We also have a visit from Læsø Efterskole, which is our newest friendship efterskole. Læsø has a lot to offer and especially the island life, where there is rarely stress and pressure because you just ARE together, is really good for teenagers.
In addition, Læsø Efterskole offers many of the same exciting profile subjects and electives as we do at Ranum. Check it out and tell the story!
The newly refurbished thrift store in Ranum will be open tomorrow at the Christmas market. We are short of goods on the shelves, so if you have any better second-hand clothes, you are welcome to bring them to the shop. We hope that the recycling idea will also make it easier for the students to make a profit for the Cultural Journeys, just as the profits go to our friendship schools and associations.
We're proud of the little Nobel Prize, the newly qualified football referees, the Lego League final team who will be competing the following weekend, and all our students who are going the extra mile this week to raise money for the institutions we visit on the Cultural Journeys.
Happy 1st of December next week. It's going to be really cosy watching the Christmas calendar bring the houses together.
We wish everyone a very good weekend
