Ranum Efterskole's Students Out in the World!

Dear all,

The adventure has truly begun! This week has been full of excitement, new impressions and unforgettable experiences for our students, who are now scattered across the globe on their cultural studies journeys. From mountain peaks in Nepal to the vibrant streets of Tokyo, from wild safari experiences in Africa to relaxing beach life in Hawaii, students have a unique opportunity to get to know the world first-hand.

These holidays are more than just a trip to a new destination. They are a dive into foreign cultures, an educational journey through language, history, society and nature. Students meet new people, taste local specialities, experience everyday life in other countries and gain experiences that go far beyond the classroom.

We're following their adventures closely and can't wait to share their stories. Here's a first insight into what they've experienced in the first week of their adventure! 

First Week of Cultural Travelling - A World of Experiences! 

Students have now spent their first week travelling the world and the adventure is in full swing! Each destination offers unique experiences, and from the buzz of big cities to the silence of the mountains, from cultural exchanges to wild nature experiences, our students have already created memories for life.

Culture subject of the year: Destinations and experiences

Argentina - Football, Tango and History

In Buenos Aires, students got a taste of Argentinian culture with football and tango. They visited the iconic River Plate stadium and experienced the atmosphere of the La Boca neighbourhood. Later, there was a cultural meeting with the Danish-Argentine club in Necochea, where the students heard stories about Danish life in Argentina.

Bali - Culture, School Visits and Tropical Nature

Students in Bali have experienced the island's rich culture and scenic surroundings. They visited a local school where they attended classes and learnt about Balinese traditions. The day also included exploring rice fields, temples and beautiful sunsets.

Brasilien - The magic of the rainforest and the splendour of nature
Students in Brasilien have spent time in the lush rainforest, learning about the local flora and fauna. They visited beautiful waterfalls, enjoyed spectacular views and experienced nature up close. The day ended with relaxing by the campfire after an adventurous day in the jungle.

Canada - Skiing, Nature and City Life
In Canada, the students have spent time in Whistler, where they have enjoyed fantastic skiing in snow-capped mountains. After intense days on the slopes, they relaxed in the spa and ate delicious food. Vancouver also offered exciting experiences, from Stanley Park to historic China Town.

Coral Restoration - Preserving Life Under the Sea

Students have engaged in an important environmental project to help rebuild coral reefs. They have learnt about marine ecosystems, planted coral and experienced how small actions can make a big difference.

Through diving and workshops, they gained a unique insight into marine biology and sustainability. A journey with meaning and learning in focus.

Costa Rica - Adventure in the Rainforest

Students have explored the lush rainforest, bathed in waterfalls and experienced the incredible biodiversity. Meeting local guides has provided insight into conservation and wildlife in the area.

Trekking through the jungle, boat trips and volunteering fill the coming days as students continue their adventure.

Hawaii - Volcanoes, Starry Skies and Cultural Encounters

In Hawaii, students have experienced volcanic landscapes, snorkelled in crystal clear waters and learned about Hawaiian culture. They've hiked in national parks and seen world-famous starry skies from Mauna Kea.

With surf lessons, hula dancing and visits to local communities, even more adventures await.

Japan - Traditions, Technology and Tokyo's Vibrant Life

Students have experienced Japan's unique interplay between tradition and modernity. They have visited temples, savoured authentic Japanese food and explored Tokyo's futuristic cityscape.

Days of cultural workshops, sushi courses and visits to historic cities await them.

China - Cultural Impressions and Historical Experiences

Students in China have visited historical sites, tasted local food and experienced everyday Chinese life. From the bustling streets of Beijing to quiet temples, they have gained a deeper understanding of the country's rich culture.

The next few days will be spent visiting the Great Wall and interacting with local students.

Malaysia - Jungle and Highland Adventures
The Malaysia group started the day with an off-road vehicle tour in the Cameron Highlands. They visited Mossy Forest, a fascinating rainforest, and enjoyed the breathtaking views from the mountain tops. After a trip through tea plantations, the adventure continued to Taman Negara, where students experienced the jungle at night and spotted spiders, snakes and scorpions.

Morocco - Historic Cities and the Atlas Mountains

Students in Morocco have trekked through the Atlas Mountains and explored the UNESCO-protected Ksar Ait Ben Haddou. They walked through the historic ruins and enjoyed a spectacular sunset over the desert landscape. The day ended with dancing and socialising at their hotel.

Namibia - Safari, Local Communities and Magnificent Landscapes

In Namibia, students have been on safari and seen Africa's wildlife up close. They visited local villages and learnt about the indigenous cultures and their life in the desert.

With more nature excursions and overnight stays under the stars, the journey continues with unique experiences.

Nepal - Trekking in the Himalayas

The Nepal group took on the challenge and climbed to Tadapani at an altitude of 2630 metres. Overlooking the majestic Annapurna Mountains, they experienced a feeling of being on top of the world. They enjoy the silence and grandeur of the Himalayas as they prepare for the next leg of their trek.

Panama - Cultural Meeting in Santa Fe

In Panama, the students experienced a warm welcome in Santa Fe, where they visited a local school and participated in a big show with music, song and dance. Culture was exchanged and new friendships were made across language barriers. Students participated in cooking, folk dancing and football matches with the locals.

South Africa - Wildlife and Natural Wonders

In South Africa, the students visited an ostrich farm where they learnt about ostrich breeding and tasted ostrich meat. They then travelled to Boulders Beach where they met a colony of South African penguins. Next stop is a hike up the iconic Table Mountain.

South Korea - Pop Culture, History and Modern Lifestyle

In South Korea, students have explored Seoul with its exciting mix of futuristic architecture, historic palaces and vibrant street food. They also experienced K-pop culture and sampled traditional dishes.

The next few days are spent visiting temples, interacting with Korean students and discovering the country's rich history.

Thailand - Temples, Food Culture and Local Meetings

Students in Thailand have visited impressive temples, learnt about Thai cooking and explored markets and city life. They also relaxed on beautiful beaches and experienced warm Thai hospitality.

The next few days will be spent visiting elephant reserves, island hopping and more cultural immersion.

USA West - Hollywood, Universities and Basketball

The students on the West Coast of the USA had a fantastic time in Los Angeles, experiencing the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Griffith Observatory and a thrilling LA Clippers basketball game. After a drive north, they arrived in San Francisco, where even more adventures await.

USA East - From the Streets of New York to Historic Monuments

Travelling the east coast of the United States has brought students to New York's iconic landmarks, Washington D.C.'s historic buildings and local high schools. They have experienced city life and gained a unique insight into American culture.

The next days continue with exciting visits to museums, universities and cultural hotspots.

Texas Homestay - Insights into American Life

In Texas, students stay with host families and get an authentic experience of everyday American life. They've participated in high school activities, tried rodeo and tasted traditional Texan barbecue.
