07 Sep Kimber race, Chinese guest teacher and new cultural profile subjects
Dear reader!
This week has offered plenty of academic teaching, profile subjects and not least club subjects in the evenings. We have had over 90 students at Kimberlauf in Års. Adventure has been to the mountain bike race in Uhrehøje and today, Friday, more than 160 friends flocked in, making a total of over 300 young people for the weekend. We've had a really great week, with high energy levels and exciting presentations of new profile subjects for term 2.
Professional the different levels are now in full gear and several students have assignments for the coming week. We have decided to listen to a student request to be able to work longer online in the evenings, and are extending the online time until bedtime. Our new Chinese visiting teacher has arrived safely and will be teaching Chinese for beginners for the next few months.
In the profile subjects Design, Media, Music and Dance are hard at work preparing for the upcoming profile programme trips to Berlin. Sailing has set the crews for the cruise in Croatia and Adventure is looking forward to a new destination in the Austrian Alps. International 10th grade (RIC) is focussing on the study visit to Yale University College in Wales. Gastronomy will be challenged in Europe's new gastronomic metropolis Copenhagen.
This week in the assemblies we have been working on present the upcoming cultural profile subjects and expeditions in the 2nd period. Both pupils and teachers have worked on familiar and new proposals.
The new profile subjects include Nicaragua - Sustainability, United Emirates, Japan, New Zealand, China, Nepal, India, Nordic countries, European capitals, Ghana and the United States. After the first presentations, today we held a test selection and, except for European Cities and the United Emirates, the other ideas will go to the next test selection on Tuesday. In the final round of voting, which will take place on Friday, there will only be the opportunity to put first priority. The choice will also be sent to parents, who must approve it by replying by e-mail. This procedure allows students to make a reflected choice and discuss it with their parents. The final choice must be made by 17 September.
In the coming week each evening there will be further presentations and debate on the choice of profile subjects for the 2nd term. This will give students the opportunity to work with teachers to shape the subject and set goals for the subject.
This weekend is friends weekend. The programme includes adventure races, dancing, sailing, gastronomy and in the evening there is a cosy atmosphere and films, as well as sports in the hall. Sunday is Nature Day and we have invited you to kayak and canoe at Vilsted Lake between 10 and 12.
I wish you a very good weekend, best regards
Olav Storm
