Election night, Troels Kløvedal and community

Dear reader!
The US elections were closely followed and students took part in a big election dinner on Tuesday evening. The presidential election showed a somewhat more convincing victory for Obama than Americans themselves indicated. We also followed the election in China, but it is less colourful than the American one.

On Wednesday, Troels Kløvedal took us all on a fantastic journey into the blue universe of freedom. He told us vividly and with fantastic pictures about his more than 40 years of expeditions with the North Sea Kayak around the world. In the evening, we held a charity evening with dinner and a lecture with Troels Kløvedal for guests, and it was a very nice evening.

During the week, in addition to the many academic lessons, the profile subjects have been really busy. The Nicaragua team was in Aarhus to visit the World Forests organisation. Here they helped kick-start a major campaign to conserve rainforests through sustainability projects.

Wednesday was also Operation Work of the Day and we were traditionally visited by many former students, who worked on reflecting on their own after-school years for the benefit of other young people. Their posts will be on the website next week.

In the Thursday classes, the new hunting course has been a great success. Both students and teachers participate, as well as a single dog in the course. Other electives include swimming, psychology, performance, dance, Lego Mindstorm, music, climbing and more.

This weekend, a large group of students will be collecting money for the Danish Refugee Council.

In the coming week, there will be bridge building for all pupils in 10th grade. And we take up a lot of space in the North Jutland landscape when the pupils are distributed every morning to more than 14 different addresses in Års, Støvring and Aalborg. The pupils follow the programme of the upper secondary schools and are back at Ranum Efterskole every afternoon at around 15.30, where there is an assembly.

Students in 9th grade also have a different week. Among other things, they are going on a nature excursion to the Elm Museum in Tange and on Wednesday they will all be going to Aarhus to see the Munk exhibition at Aros.

Pedagogical we've had a really lovely week, even though we're in the absolute worst month for afterschool depression. We are seeing a good stability in the student body and again we can feel that they are looking forward to both the Christmas season and the upcoming expeditions in January. At the end of this month, the decorating competition for the most beautiful Christmas room starts. It is therefore a good idea to think about decorations and cosiness. Apart from Christmas trees and 220-volt light chains, let your imagination run wild.

Wintertime is also shoe/slipper time and we strongly encourage students to wear slippers to avoid salt and dirt all over the school. So find a pair of fun/old/ugly/pretty/practical etc. slippers - and wear them...

Best regards and have a great weekend.

Olav Storm
Principal
