16 Nov Bridging, AROS and Nepal Night

Dear reader!
It has been a totally atypical RE week. All 10th graders have left school very early in the morning and have been distributed to more than 14 different addresses in Aalborg, Støvring and Års during the obligatory bridge-building week. Year 9, on the other hand, slept late and had a very varied programme, including a science day and an excursion to AROS in Aarhus, where they saw the big MUNK exhibition.

The other days are spent with mathematics and German classes. On Wednesday afternoon, the Nepal team was visited by adventurer and author Henning Bitsch, who told a little about his many adventures on a motorcycle and about the friendship school cooperation in Nepal, which Henning helped to start. On Thursday evening, Vincent and Victor from Nepal, together with a number of volunteers, prepared a really nice Nepal evening, where the students ate on the floor, sitting in a tailored position and with their fingers.

Today Friday we worked on the interpretation of body language, and it is a topic that can be quite entertaining / interesting in 9th grade.

It's not just the students of Ranum Efterskole who have been out and about gaining new experiences. This week we have had Frederikke Jensen from Thisted, Østre Skole on placement as an afterschool teacher and in the office. Together with Natasha Bonde from the vocational schools in Års, Frederikke made a nice display of school uniforms by the banquet hall. The deadline for ordering before Christmas is 1 December.

In the next weeks we 100% focus on the academic subjects and in the profile subjects we prepare the expeditions and distribute the tasks for the big Performance performance in the weekend of 8-9 December. On Wednesday there is a contact group evening, where most kt.groups visit their kt.group teacher at home.

Registration on the website will come Monday, but here's a teaser - remember to tick the right day in your calendar. I.e. the day when there is also an information meeting about the cultural profile subject your student has chosen. The performance is for the whole family. It is free to see the performance, and the students are doing a number of activities, raffles and selling a nice Ranum Efterskole calendar 2013 in aid of the Cultural Studies projects in the many countries we visit.

The Christmas season has started! And it's a good idea to start small by bringing Christmas cheer into your rooms. Aside from spruce trees (and this is not a political thing) and 220-volt light strings, it's pretty much a free-for-all. Live lights in decorations should be in a fireproof base. The Christmas decorating competition in the rooms doesn't officially start until 1 December. Santa hats help add extra life, and throughout December we'll be bringing you a Christmas calendar featuring RE the Elf.

On 30 November there will be another student party organised by the Student Party Committee and the Parents' Council.

Get your knit on!

Do you (or someone you know) have old yarn spools, knitting needles, crochet hooks and the like lying around? RE welcomes them.
The knitting/crocheting hands at RE will be knitting/crocheting patches for blankets to be given as gifts on the cultural trips in January. We need yarn scraps in all sorts of qualities and colours. We also need knitting needles and crochet hooks - again in all sizes.
Any donations can be handed in at the Seminar House or Kærhuset cloakrooms.
