19 Nov Culture subject choise, christmas weekend & municipal elections
Dear reader,
The newsletter is packed with stories from efterskole life this week, beacause we've really had a lot on the program. We are in the middle of the cultural subject choice, and it is a process that fills a lot in our minds. The dream of a fantastic journey with experiences for life starts here at this time, and it is a great responsibility to experience the freedom that the choice of cultural subject brings with it. Another big thing we followed - like the majority of the rest of the country's population - was of course the local and regional muncipal elections. The students also participated in a similar election process, and the result can be seen a little further down in the newsletter.
The weekend is well underway, and the newsletter is ready, so read along and get an overview of the efterskole week at Ranum. Happy reading!
Culture Subject Choice
The list of possible countries is slowly getting shorter, and that means we are moving in the right direction. The cultural subjects end with a travel in the spring, and that is something we are really looking forward to in the coming six months. Although the choice can be difficult because the students have a lot of wishes and dreams for the travel, it is an educational and exciting process that has already taken us all the way around the world. In the coming weeks, the students will have their final choice of the country they would like to explore, and in this way the small communities of interest will emerge, which will be an important part of the efterskole year at Ranum. Below, you can see which options the students voted for. The list is made based on the wishes of current students and a number of previous destinations and themes that we have good experiences with.
Malaysia Mexico Middle East - Oman or Jordan South Korea Japan Cuba Bali Greece (Sailing) Europatur Costa Rica (Cheerleading) Peru Egypt (Diving) Coral Restoration US Road Trip - Eastern USA - Washington DC to Boston US Road Trip - Western USA US Road Trip - Southern USA - Atlanta to Houston Nepal Puerto Rico Wildlife Conservation - Namibia Wildlife Conservation - Thailand Texas.
Christmas-hygge Weekend
If you're the type of person who definitely thinks it's too early to both talk and think about Christmas here in mid-November, just skip the section below…
And for all of you others who can hardly wait to get started, we give you a little taste of Christmas at Ranum. We have had a wonderful Christmas fun weekend, where a lot of Christmas items were prepared. Christmas cookies were baked, decorations for rooms were made, Christmas movies were seen and then the school was decorated for Christmas. The Christmas tree on top of the roof has also been set up, so now we are ready for December.
Municipal Elections
The interest in the local elections is not equally great all the way around the group of students, but everyone has at least heard about it now and had the opportunity to give their vote in our small internal local elections. On the day itself, we had an event, led by Liv and a group of students, who had planned debates, the opportunity to make signs with statements, talks about politics in other countries and a lot more.

Scuba Diving in Skage
We'll pass the word on to Troels Bjørn, who is a seasoned diving instructor and teacher here at Ranum.
"This Tuesday the 10+ Diving class had a dive trip to Skagen. We had some good dives with a focus on improving our buoyancy and trim.We also saw the Aalborg dive clubs and learned about the Diving community," he told about the dive trip to Skagen.
Shooting range in Løgstør
We are going on another trip with a slightly different theme. Wednesday night, Michael filled a bus with students who wanted to try shooting. Together they went to Løgstør, which has a nice indoor shooting range, and here they got to test their accuracy, test their ability to focus and learn a little about how to shoot with a competitive mind.
And then just hear the nice words we got along the way from the instructors.
“Thank you so much for a really good evening, to Ranum Efterskole College, which came with a bunch of amazing and sweet young people, all 31 pieces, which we got to drive through, in just over an hour, it was an experience out of the ordinary, on the really good way, never before, we have tried that it has gone so! strongly. We could not have done it, without the sweet and talented young people, both Ranum after school and the young parents have good reason to be proud, everyone listened well, and did exactly as we instructors asked them, with it result that they went from there with really nice results Thanks a lot from the instructors."
Lego mindstorm competition
For the first time ever we went to the First Lego League and it was a great success!
The team behind the Lego League subject had a great day, where the students were committed and they performed well - they backed each other up and showed a great sense of #togetherness. The robot "Olav" also performed well, and it ended in the quarterfinals in robot driving. Team 1 won 3rd place in Robot driving.
Torben Vind Rasmussen visits Ranum Efterskole College
For the first time in Ranum Efterskole College's lifetime, we had a visit from the chairman of the Efterskole Association, Torben Vind Rasmussen. He got a guided tour from the absolute best ambassadors we have - two sweet and storytelling students. Subsequently, the visit offered a good dialogue, which gave Torben Vind Rasmussen insight into our special values.
The cold thrill: Winter bathing in Rønbjerg
We are going for a quick getaway to Rønbjerg, where the cool winter bathing swimmers did not let the cold win when they jumped in the harbor. In return, they got a cold nose and a nice cold shiver.
We have included the story here because it is a good example that even though it is getting colder outside, and as we move more and more inside, there are still many outdoor activities - where there is will, there is a way, also through the cold and gray weather. The students had a nice trip together and enjoyed themselves with sauna and wilderness bath
Extreme 10+ subject
It's hard to predict that you will be extremely dirty by choosing the 10+ subject Extreme. But you do. It is also difficult to predict what will happen next, but we are excited to hear what they come up with.
We end here, among flour and mud, and we have nothing more to say than thank you for reading along.
