Cultural profile 2022In Maradona's footsteps
With football as our profile subject, we visit the football mecca Argentina and stay in the capital Buenos Aires on the way.
The trip
Argentina has one of the most successful national teams in the world and is currently No. 5 in the FIFA world rankings. They have also won the Copa America 15 times, a record shared with Uruguay. In the capital Buenos Aires there are no less than 24 football clubs, several of which play in the country's top division "Primera División". Among the best-known clubs are Boca Juniors and River Plate, and there are generally good opportunities to watch local matches in the city.
Argentina has also raised some of the biggest football stars in the world, with Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona standing as the most recognised names. Maradona, in particular, has enjoyed star status in Buenos Aires, which is why several museums have been built in his name and it is possible to visit the family's old house in the city.
The Estadio Monumental, Argentina's largest stadium, is also located in Buenos Aires. It has a capacity of 76,000 spectators and is normally the home ground of River Plate football club.
During the trip we will train football, visit football museums and hopefully have the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a football match in Argentina. We will also focus on Argentine culture, food culture and the history of the country.
The Lessons
Football gives students an understanding of the impact of football on a global scale and is for anyone with an interest in technical, tactical and physical training. There is a strong emphasis on social well-being and the feeling of being part of something bigger, so team building, competition and fair play also become important concepts.
The UN SDGs will therefore be a cross-cutting factor, with particular emphasis on point 3: Health and well-being, focusing on both physical and mental health. We place great emphasis on students becoming co-creators of the subject content and using the skills of each other so that everyone feels an important part of the group.
Throughout the school year, in addition to training 2-3 times a week, both indoor and outdoor matches will be organised against other afterschools.
