All about the first profile trips of the school year

Dear Reader,

It's been 2 weeks since we returned from the first profile trips of the year. This week the students have had a more normal day at school, and although it's not as exciting as surfing in Somo or mountain biking in Zell Am See, it's still efterskolelife at its best. The students had their last profile of the year on Thursday, with an evaluation of the profile period and the trip. The next chapter is the cultural period.

In this week's newsletter, we will give you an insight into all the P1 journeys, all the way from Sønderborg in Denmark to the Red Sea in Egypt.

Fit for Life, Sønderborg:

Fit for Life, under the expert leadership of Peter and Jacob, went on their profile tour to Sønderborg, to visit the martial arts school Shir O Khan. Here the students learned about self-defence, and certainly got through a week. See the photos from the trip, right here:

Adventure, Zell Am See:

Adventure took the adventure under its arm, and went on a mountain tour in Austria. Experiences included rafting, mountaineering, climbing and mountain biking. The coolest week, with the nicest weather and the bravest students!

Boardperformance, Sardinia:

Board performance was the first to set off when they boarded their plane on Thursday night, bound for the Italien island of Sardinia. Their journey consisted of all sorts of board sports, and included skateboarding and SUP boarding. The team has returned delightfully windswept (and with sunshine skins), after some lovely days in the italienske.

Dance, Berlin:

Dance was on a nice city trip to Berlin. Here they went sight seeing, danced in cool local dance studios and filmed a dance music video on the streets of Berlin. There was also time for flashmob, community and life-affirming set-up photos.

Fashion, Paris:

Our very own fashionistas were able to go to the world's biggest fashion city - Paris! Here they explored the city's culture, visited various fashion houses and of course went on plenty of shopping trips!

Myths and Legends, Scotland

Myths and Legends went to Edinburgh in Scotland. Here the students visited castles, Loch Ness and much, much more. The students explored the beautiful country, which was at its autumn best. What a trip it was!

Football, Barcelona:

The football team went to Barcelona. Football is not just football, but a bond within an intense sport. To train together, to lose and win together. The feeling when you score and your teammates come over and are all wild, that's one of the things that makes football special. The football team also visited Camp Nou and ended the trip with a fantastic Barca match.

Gastronomy, Copenhagen;

Gastronomy went to Copenhagen to learn more about the world's food culture - and it must be said that they were! With visits to Geranium, Bollyfood, company visits, MARK restaurant, Torvehallerne and much, much more, it was every food lover's dream trip!

Media and Music, Liverpool

Media and music joined forces when they went to Liverpool and explored the beautiful city. The trip included a photorun, a lot of Beatles, Mount Snowden, Escape Room and a lot of other fun. In addition, they played on the streets of Liverpool, all while the media went on a day trip to Manchester. Despite a slight delay on the return journey, the trip was a huge success.

Sailing, Croatia

Sailors travelled to Croatia and had their sailing skills put to the test. Students competed in racing, swam in bays, cooked on boats, explored small towns, visited Skradin National Park and practiced night sailing. In addition, a sailing trip is not complete until exercises such as man overboard, trimming sails, and cultivating cooperation around the boats are practiced.

Diving, Croatia

With 120 diving students at the school, this year 3 different destinations were set for the divers: Croatia, Malta and Egypt. This allowed a third of the school's divers to head to Croatia, where they really explored both themselves and the cooperation across the group during the trip. The group dived at the many dive sites off the island of Plavnik. They have been taking Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver training, having fun and enjoying the sunshine out at sea.

Diving, Egypt

Dive Team 2 turned their sights on the Red Sea as they set off on an expedition off Egypt. The trip consisted of dolphin visits, dives on Jackson and Gordon Reef, trips to Ras Mohammed, night dives, and everything else that goes with such a dive trip. Students report amazing underwater sights, and great evening parties on the boat - wild experience all in all!

Diving, Malta

For the third team of diving students, the course was set for Malta, where the students were on an adventure. The trip included Valletta, shore diving, fluctuating weather conditions, dives in Alex Cave & on the wreck P31 and even the presentation of a friendship certificate to the insanely talented Seashell Dive Center.

Surf, Somo:

In Spain, Somo, the surfers from Ranum had good conditions. The trip offered Spanish waves, surf, SUP and kayak. It's not just jumping on a board. No, you have to find or get a balance, which once found, is affected by both wind, waves and your own insecurities. But with good instructors and patience, everyone found the balance. That moment when you can feel that now it all just plays out, a bit like when you learned to ride a bike, is very special. It means that you have now become wiser in your own body. You've learned something new. Along with a lot of other young people. That's what profiling is all about. Gaining a new skill.

Wakeboard, Turkey:

Wakeboarding was in Turkey, Hip-notics - one of Turkey's really good cable parks. It's a bit like having a constant tailwind on the bike paths. It all just gets a bit more fun. You're suddenly being pulled along on a board. Hold on and remember your balance or you'll end up in the water. Again. But it doesn't matter because you'll be back up quickly and won't have to wait for optimal conditions, because there are always optimal conditions to practice balance, jumps and other tricks on the various obstacles. The students got to use it extensively. They got better, both at keeping their balance in difficult conditions but also wiser about each other's skills. Something that made for good chats.

Yoga, Malaga:

Yoga's trip to Malaga included the town of Mijas, the Mayan Monkey Chocolate Factory, pool trips, lots of yoga, a bridge trip, and all sorts of lovely walks in the area.

A look ahead

And that concludes our journey through each of the P1 profile journeys. Here's a sneak peek:

Kieron Jones

Next week, Kieron Jones is a guest all week. He's an actor from London who's coming to take us all through the noble art of Romeo and Juliet! All the students will be working with Kieron in their English lessons, so each class will be mesmerised by a creative performance of Romeo and Juliet, with the students themselves as the actors.

The week culminates in a Mascarave, which is a big Shakespeare event on Thursday night. We're looking forward to it!

Halloween

Friday night sees the first student party, when around 470 students take part in a Halloween-themed celebration. Plus, the spooky really takes over when the annual Halloween House once again pops up out in Næsby. Here, Kristine and Carsten have provided the thrills and spills, in their very own Ranum Haunted House. Once again, we are looking forward!

Above a small glimpse of how Halloween looked like last year

Election Day

Elections are on the menu! On Tuesday, the school will be in a real election mood, and the subject Activism and Democracy has set the programme. The day includes Democracy Rap, election posters, "create your own party", and much much more - we can only say: we are looking forward!

Here's a little look back, at election night with Matthew and student team 15.

Thank you for now

Thank you all for once again stopping by Ranum in digital version - see you already next week!

Best regards from all of us at,

Ranum Efterskole College
