22 Feb Nature sports and an impossible mission?

Dear reader,

The sun has started to burn through the fog and clouds in Ranum. The days are getting brighter.

This week we had nature sports days: teaching, exercising and developing activities with nature as a learning space. In addition, we were inspired by a man who rowed across the Atlantic. Seemingly an impossible mission, which only made the story even more exciting.

?? Welcome, Catherine.

Cathreine visits Ranum Efterskole College the next four days. She will experience Ranum from the first package to find out if we are the right school for her. We offer all interested Danish and international students to experience Ranum before they decide.

Catherine is Swedish/American and lives in Malmö. She has two fresh tour guides in Lars and AC. Lars is from North Germany and AC has almost just returned to Denmark after living in Bahrain for 10 years.

Nature sports days

Wednesday to Friday we have had nature sports days with many different activities and themes. These included a Zombierun, an adventure race in Uhrhøje, and presentations on daring to do something wild, such as rowing across the Atlantic or running 850 km across the Pyrenees. More on that below.

During the week, the international students have had Danish term tests, and in the afternoon we have had presentations from the cultural studies trips.

Students building a mountain bike pump track gained a greater understanding of math and physics in practice as they built the track. Hopefully it can be seen soon, so stay tuned!

Below are some pictures from the forest, which was the arena for the Zombie-Run. Survivors, vaccinated and zombies have each wandered the forest with their own missions to complete.

Cultural presentations

Shrovetide

The week started with carnival, where the houses were beaten. The students had a few hours to dress up, and although for some teens it is embarrassing, it was also a really nice evening with lots of fun and laughter.

To dare ... ?

What is an adventure and do I dare to go on one? How do I get started?

These were just some of the questions Christian Havrehed tried to frame his lecture around. He is the first Dane to row across the Atlantic - together with a Chinese (who couldn't row either). He will give a lecture on Thursday at 1 pm in the Festival Hall.

Christian has also run 880km through the Pyrenees alone from the Atlantic coast to the Mediterranean. Now he's planning a trip across the Pacific in a prehistoric vessel to prove that the Chinese, like the Vikings, discovered America before Columbus.

Can everyone just go on an adventure, or does it take something special? Is there a secret ingredient? The students got the answers at the lecture. If you're interested in reading more, and perhaps finding answers to some of the questions yourself, you might like to read this story.

Events next week

This coming weekend is Gamers weekend at the school and the following day the student and parent party committee will organise the 3rd student party. This time the students have requested to eat at the school before going to the party and weekend.

Bring skates if you have them or can borrow them.

Next week the "Siberian cold wave" is coming, and it should be used for something fun. So if you have the chance, bring your skates!

In addition, all the new and re-emerging profile subjects will start next, indicating the transition to the third period of the after-school year.
