09 Mar PVA Awardshow, Parliament visit and sandwich cake
Dear reader,
A great week of afterschool is coming to an end. So, as usual, we bring you an overview of the week's experiences and stories for those who follow life at Ranum.
This week, the newsletter takes you to Strasbourg to discuss global politics with young people from around the world. Then all the way back to the community hall in Ranum to witness the decision at the PVA Competition. Finally, we turn our sights to next week, with a casino weekend, a tour and oral exams in the offing.
Speaking of tours. It's on Sunday - are you coming? Apply here.
Ranum students visit the European Parliament
The trip to Strasbourg gave the travelling students the opportunity to see not only Strasbourg's beautiful, old and well-preserved buildings, but also the huge European Parliament. Here, among young people from all over the world, Marcus and Laura gave a great presentation of Ranum. This was the start of their day as MEPs. The group of students debated political issues and the big topics came up. Human rights, global economy, climate and environmental protection were just some of the topics they were around.
We also got to follow a bit from home, when Carsten and Mathias were live on the big screen at the community gathering. (Spoiler: They didn't find Ulla Terkelsen).
The students who went prepared for a long time to go. They have studied and read about current issues facing the European Parliament. And rightly so. They got into debating groups, where they had to debate and argue for legislative proposals linked to the current issues, and also suggestions on how the EU Parliament could improve. In other words, a task for which it would be wise to prepare.
The trip went well and the returning elves had many things to tell. Not least, they had a strengthened knowledge of Europe and a huge experience from the magnificent plenary hall.
PVA Competition Award Show
The competition has been a cornucopia of fantastic photos, well-written articles and compelling videos submitted by students. The judges were overwhelmed and all the great entries this time.
Now the winners have been chosen and the prizes awarded. If you didn't get to see all the participants, you can still reach them at PVA Competition Facebook page.
The overall winner was Stinus Kaempe. He filmed and edited a video from his trip to Nepal, which is absolutely stunning. Enjoy it below.
Congratulations once again to all the participants and especially to the winners. We will hold the PVA Competition again after P3.

IGCSE videos
We've made a number of videos for some of the international subjects - more will be coming, but for now you can watch some of them here.
Events next week
Tomorrow, Saturday, kicks off Casino Weekend, where a new poker champion will be found. There are plenty of prizes in the poker tournament and everyone can enter, whether you're the new Gus Hansen or a beginner.
The coming week will be busy and exciting for all the international students. They have oral exams. Before then, there's a big tour on Sunday, with lots of registrations but still plenty of places. So if you or your child hasn't found a place for next year, come along on Sunday.
Book your place on the tour right here.
We wish everyone a very good weekend
