09 Nov Relaxation and fun before the wildest dance weekend of the year
Dear reader,
Sometimes it's just nice to be able to sit back, chat with friends, watch a film, enjoy a cup of tea or read a good book. That's why there were no concerts, lectures or other activities on the programme this week. Instead, we spent the week recharging our batteries for a new weekend, where Michael Jackson's hits and dance moves will be found when Anthony King visits us for our dance weekend.
Siblings Weekend
This weekend we had a visit from our students' siblings and, as in previous years, we had a little look-a-like competition to see which of our students most resembled their siblings. However, that wasn't the only thing we had time for. We also carved pumpkins, baked cookies, watched Bear Brothers at the movies (what else when the afterschool is full of siblings!?) and played board games.
Well-being and well-being at Ranum Efterskole College
Earlier this school year we had a visit from Thomas and Jennifer in connection with a research project on well-being in Danish afterschools. Last Thursday they came back to tell us more about what they have found out so far through the research project, but also to discuss where Ranum is doing well and where there is room for improvement to increase both staff and students' well-being. It was an exciting presentation that gave us an insight into how we can together make Ranum an even better afterschool for students and teachers.
New AFS students
On Monday, four AFS students from Guatemala landed at Aalborg Airport and will stay here at Ranum for the next four weeks. They have found a contact group, some roomies and are 100 % ready to experience life as a Danish after-school student.
Come by our Christmas market and get the perfect start to Christmas
On 1 December, we kick off Christmas with a Christmas market, but it's not just any Christmas market. Students will be getting creative over the next few days and making Christmas decorations, Christmas cakes and maybe even a few Christmas decorations to get them ready for Christmas. Best of all, all the money raised by the students on the day will go to really good causes. In fact, when the students leave on their cultural studies trip at the start of the new year, they take the money with them and donate it to a home for HIV-infected girls in India, our friends' school in Nepal and an animal rehabilitation centre in Namibia, among other places. So mark your calendars and join us as we kick off Christmas and the Feast of Hearts. You can read much more about our Christmas market on our Facebook page at our facebook event.
On weekends we'll get out our dancing shoes with Anthony King. On Saturday, the students will dance along with Anthony King as he teaches us Michael Jackson's best dance moves, while on Sunday we'll hold an open event for anyone who might be interested. Just remember to sign up straight away here.
Next week 10th graders begin writing OSO assignments, while 9th graders begin their project assignments. Therefore, we do not have the normal classes as all focus will be on OSO and project assignments.
Greetings all of us at
