First week

Dear reader,

Academic yearof 24-25 has started with 539 students. Parents and students came together on Sunday afternoon for a Welcome Assembly on the lawn in front of the main building. The Assembly included speeches and songs. We also used the opportunity to introduce the details about our new bus service the 'Ranum bus'. This service will connect Ranum with most of Denmark with its 6 different routes, including destinations such as Billund and Aalborg Airport. The initiative is necessary after the Efterskolebussen announced in the Spring that it was discontinued and we are now the only efterskole to offer this service.

It has been a great intro week, where the students have gotten to know the school, the city and the local area better - and not least met each other. The biggest challenge, apart from leaving home and meeting over 500 new young people as well as 100 new adults, was without a doubt Wednesday's swimming test in Rønbjerg, but luckily the weather was on our side and the water still warm, so the vast majority of the students managed to complete the test. We are all excited to see how the school year develops, but we can already say that we have a great impression of this year's student body and we are looking forward to tonight's Colour Party, where we celebrate the diversity and unity across the school.

This weekend we have Profile Day on Saturday and the first House Cup of the year is on Sunday, where the houses compete in different disciplines. The first House Cup is of course based on activities inspired by the Olympic Games.

First day of school - Welcome assembly on the lawn

First community gathering

First community gathering with rules and framework, HEJ culture and community singing.

Cosy evening in the Seminary House

Friday morning in Kærhuset

There's also socialising in Kærhuset in the morning.

The first walk with the alpacas

In the backyard at Ranumhus we have a small mini zoo with several different animals. Including some very cosy alpacas. They have been so excited to go for a walk again.

Tour of Rønbjerg

At the beginning of the week, all the students were down at Rønbjerg. There's a huge activity centre with a swimming pool and much more. We took group photos on their jumping pillows. There were also several who took swimming tests. Because Rønbjerg also has a harbour.

Swim test in Rønbjerg

The big test, apart from leaving home and meeting over 500 other young people and 100 new adults, was without a doubt Wednesday's swimming test in Rønbjerg. Fortunately, the weather was in our favour and the water is still warm, so the vast majority of the students managed to complete the test.

Headmaster's column

Dear reader, in the principal's column, I write about big and small things that help shape young people's education, develop our efterskole and create communities.

I love the start of a school year because there is so much energy in the new team of students and staff, because we really want to succeed together! But this year I've also had to spend time focusing on the future and fighting for the 10th grade to be preserved.
The government and the Minister of Education are in favour of changing the 10th grade in order to get more people to apply for vocational training. Of course, 10th grade should always be developed so that it remains a relevant option for young people, but it is an impossible task to force more young people to choose a vocational youth programme. There will probably be quite a heated debate in the coming weeks and months because there are many emotions surrounding 10th grade in Denmark, especially on efterskolerne.

It happens

Tonight we are hosting a big colour festival. That really gets the students together. It will be festive and colourful.

On Sunday we will hold House Cup. An event where the different houses (Semi, Kær, Ranumhus and Prien) compete against each other in different disciplines.

On Wednesday 21 August there will be concert with Sloe Jim.

Vilsted Sø Race for all on 14 Sep
In collaboration with the Lions Club, we are organising the Vilsted Sø Løb and combining it with an activity day for all students and families. We hope that many families will come to Ranum to take part and experience the efterskole atmosphere and community for a day.
