06 Dec Imagination week, Photo and Video Competition, Climate Fair, Sea Survival Sailing Skills and Student Letters
Dear reader,
Last week was filled with creativity, Christmas cosiness and a fantastic musical. We organised the PVA Awards, visited Den Gamle By in Aarhus, and some students presented solutions at the climate fair. Students participated in Amnesty International's campaign, a futsal tournament and practised sea survival skills. In January, 10 young people from Argentina, India and New Zealand will visit us through AFS.
Principal Olav Storm summarises a great performance and Christmas weekend and emphasises the importance of the students' active participation in the community. Have a great weekend to everyone and a safe student party to the students!

Students' letters to Write for Rights
Ann Katrine's English class has written letters as a part of Amnesty International's campaign Write for Rights. In it, you write letters to people, whose human rights have been violated, often resulting in unjust imprisonment. You write to offer them hope and an advocate for their cause. The students have also written letters to the governments and presidents in charge of these actions to demand release and justice within the universal human rights. You can see some of the letters below.

Futsal tournament
Futsal is a type of football played on pitches similar in size to handball courts and usually indoors.
The name "Futsal" comes from a contraction of the Portuguese words "futbol de salão" and Spanish "fútbol sala/de salón", meaning "indoor football".
Sea Survival Sailing Skills
While the boats are wrapped in tarpaulins and far away from the sea: Skills Sailing uses the time to get ready for the proficiency test, which is a good base to continue a life as a sailor after Ranum Efterskole. One of the topics we cover is of course survival at sea. The time was spent in the pool in Rønbjerg. Here we could stay dry, warm and be together. We practised turning and boarding a life raft, swimming together to be seen and staying together to keep warm. And of course, there was also time to relax in the hot jacuzzi before heading out into the grey Danish winter.
AFS students in Denmark
In January, 10 young people from Argentina, India and New Zealand will visit us through our collaboration with AFS. They will stay at the school and participate in the activities. They would also really like to experience Danish culture a little closer and we hope that there could be some more of you and your families who would like to invite them home for the weekend from 17 to 19 January? If you would like to hear more, please contact me at bp@ranumefterskole.dk or Mette Mahoney at mnm@ranumefterskole.dk.
Headmaster's column
Dear reader,
It has been an absolutely marvellous Performance and Christmas weekend. All three musicals were full, the Christmas market raised over 40 thousand kroner for charity and there were a lot of cultural subject presentations and school-home talks. On Sunday, we had another 50 families for a guided tour to register for the coming school year. It's great that there is such a high demand, so please pass on the message that you need to be out in good time. This week, we have started up both the Cultural subjects and the common travel subjects. The Prague Imagination and Winter Nature Sports teams were together and there is really high energy and many expectations for the two big joint trips. It is clear that the Christmas spirit is creeping in everywhere and the students gather in the common rooms around the Christmas calendars on TV. On Wednesday there was a big award show with the presentation of prizes for the first PVAY (Photo, Video, Article and Yearbook) competition from Profile Subject Period 1. The event is a recognition of the great work that many students do on and after their cultural studies trip with photos, videos and stories. We will repeat the success for the next Cultural Journeys and hope that even more students will participate. The week ends with an exciting lecture by Anna Poulsen, a former student from Ranum. Anna tells how she unwittingly ended up in a women's prison on a journey from Peru to Denmark, and how she persevered and fought her way out of prison and back to her family. After the lecture, the students prepare for the second big student party. The party is organised by the voluntary parent council of the Friends of Ranum Efterskole. This time, the student council's party committee has also been active in finding music and giving good ideas to the parents. It can be really hard to be at efterskole in the darkness. But I have to say that overall we have a great team of students, and especially the students who believe that everything should be served as a "product" realise that they themselves are the crucial factor for efterskole life to succeed by saying yes and being active in the community. This is education for life!
Happy weekend to all and safe student party to the students!
