20 Dec Christmas ball, Christmas party, Christmas service and more Christmas! - The year ends with a bang at efterskolen.
Dear reader,
Christmas is just around the corner, and with it comes joy, cosiness and not least the expectations of a new year. We've had a fantastic first half of the year here at the school, and we're ready to end the year on a high note. We have a team of students who are full of energy and courage, and even if there are challenges, we are ready to meet them with open arms.
This week we've seen everything from contaminated drinking water to a festive Christmas ball, and we ended the year with an impressive fireworks display that lit up the city. We hope you all have a fantastic Christmas holiday and we look forward to seeing you again in the new year.
Take care of each other and welcome to the last newsletter of the year.
Cultural subjects are shaken together
The students have been given their Culture subjects, and the focus is initially on getting the students together and creating new friendships in the teams. In the Brasilien team, a team building task was created to get the students to work together. They had to build towers out of recycled paper and compete to build the tallest and most beautiful tower together in groups.
Football in Aalborg
On Monday, 40 students had an extraordinary experience when they went to see AaB play Silkeborg at home in Aalborg. There was a parade and a great atmosphere inside the stadium. After an exciting match with many chances for both teams, Silkeborg ended up with the victory. The atmosphere, however, is something the students will never forget.
Christmas Ball
Thursday night we had the big Christmas Ball. With the beautifully decorated hall, delicious food and the wonderful young people, it could only be a great evening! Speeches were given by both Olav and the school's student council president. The school's various music teams performed shows, there was delicious Christmas food with risalamande for dessert, waltz and fireworks at the end. The evening's Photo Booth was also used extensively.
Professional fireworks for all of Ranum
Thursday's Christmas Ball literally ended with a bang for both the students and the townspeople. An incredibly beautiful and accomplished show was hired to delight both the town and the students; and to put a proper end before the students go home for Christmas.
Christmas closing
Cleaning, nativity scenes, elves and "Now it's Christmas again" throughout the school is a packed programme, but the school is as busy as ever. After cleaning, the students gathered for lunch at the local church, where the school Christmas choir sang Christmas carols. The students then gathered to watch the school's teachers put on a nativity play, which was a great success with the students - there was certainly a lot of laughter. The winners of this year's Christmas competitions were revealed, and then the traditional "Now it's Christmas again" chain started throughout the school, ending in the schoolyard with apple slices, sweets, and a visit from Father Christmas in his sleigh.
The school enters the new year clean
Although students are enjoying a well-deserved Christmas break, it's not all plain sailing. Together with the staff, the school is being cleaned from top to bottom to make sure it's sharp and ready for the new year. Not everyone is happy about it, but there's a lot of fun and a great atmosphere leading up to the holidays.

AFS students in Denmark
In January, 10 young people from Argentina, India and New Zealand will visit us through our collaboration with AFS. They will stay at the school and participate in the activities. They would also really like to experience Danish culture a little closer and we hope that there could be some more of you and your families who would like to invite them home for the weekend from 17 to 19 January? If you would like to hear more, please contact me at bp@ranumefterskole.dk or Mette Mahoney at mnm@ranumefterskole.dk.
Headmaster's column
Dear reader,
Christmas is just around the corner and we end the first half of the year with a really good feeling. The evaluation of the first half of the year also emphasises that we have a fantastic student team, with lots of energy and courage for the efterskole year. This applies to 95% of the students, but there are still students who have challenges getting up in the morning and maintaining their energy in efterskolelife. This is completely normal for teenagers and fortunately changes throughout the year for most. We're trained to hold on and we're in for an exciting spring. When we come back from the winter trips to Sweden and Prague, there are only two months until the big cultural trips, and then most of us break out of hibernation and emerge as new young adults.
This week we have experienced that the drinking water was contaminated, but fortunately there have been no outbreaks of illness due to the bacteria. We kicked off the first half of the year with a great Christmas ball in the main hall and ended the last night with a professional fireworks display for the whole town. I hope you all have a fantastic Christmas holiday and we look forward to seeing you again on 4 January, when we also welcome 10 young people from all over the world for a short stay in Ranum. Take care of each other!
