Argentinian cuisine, commemorative shirt, efterskole Fair and Casino Weekend.

Dear reader,

It's the weekend again. This week we've been teaching cultural studies, which is the part where the students are prepared for the upcoming cultural studies trips. Here the students are taught about the culture of the different countries. Come along and see how it went for the Argentina team. We are also in the process of making the commemorative shirt that all students will receive later this year. This weekend, you can visit us at the Efterskole fair in Roskilde. At the same time, we're holding Casino Weekend again this year. Of course, we don't have pictures of this yet, but you'll get a flashback to last year's Casino Weekend. Have a great weekend and happy reading.

Empanadas at Ranum Efterskole

Empanadas at Ranum Efterskole
On Thursday 23 January 2025, Ranum Efterskole created an authentic Argentinian atmosphere when students from the Argentina team took to the kitchen and made delicious empanadas. This activity was part of the school's cultural studies programme, which focuses on bringing international traditions and flavours into everyday life.

A culinary journey through Argentina
Empanadas are a classic dish from Argentinian cuisine, known for their crispy dough and filling of spicy meat or vegetables. Students worked together in small groups and followed recipes that required both precision and creativity. They rolled dough, prepared fillings and folded the small crescent-shaped pies with great care.

The process captured in pictures
To document this exciting day, photos were taken throughout the process - from the preparation of ingredients to the finished empanadas. These images show the students' engagement and joy in learning something new while creating something delicious for the community.

A tasty result
After baking, the empanadas were served and enjoyed by students and teachers alike. The flavour of the crispy dough combined with the spicy filling brought a touch of Argentina to Ranum and the event was a great success. This experience is yet another example of how Ranum Efterskole creates unique learning opportunities through hands-on activities that strengthen both community and cultural understanding.

The commemorative jersey 2024/2025 - A special memory from our 1TP5 Years

Wednesday 22 January 2025 marked the start of one of our traditions here at Ranum Efterskole College. The first students put their names on this year's commemorative shirt for 2024/2025.

More than just a shirt

The commemorative shirt is not just a piece of clothing - it is a living testimony to the unique community that flourishes here at Ranum. Each name represents a personal journey, a story of friendship, and a contribution to our collective experience.

Why is the commemorative shirt so special?

  • A tangible memento: In a digital age, the shirt provides a physical anchor to the efterskole era.
  • Community symbol: Each name on the shirt is a reminder of the friendships and experiences created.
  • Timeless tradition: The shirt connects current students with previous years in an unbroken chain of Ranum spirit.

To all current students

Don't forget to put your name on the shirt! You have until the end of next week. It's quick and easy, and you'll be part of this awesome tradition.

Tip: You can make your name extra special by drawing a small symbol next to it - maybe something that reminds you of your favourite trip or cultural subject?

For parents and interested parties

The commemorative shirt is a great way to see what your children are a part of here at Ranum. It shows all the new friends they've made and the experiences they've had together.

A shirt full of stories

Imagine the shirt in 10, 20 or 30 years. Each name will evoke memories:

  • Fun times in the dining room
  • Exciting journeys to other countries
  • All the different friends or acquaintances you made.
  • Great experiences in cultural subjects
  • All the other fun things you've done together

Next steps

We look forward to seeing the shirt filled with names and stories in the coming days. Stay tuned to our social media channels where we'll be sharing glimpses of the process behind it.

Let's celebrate together this beautiful tradition that binds us all together in Ranum-familien.

P.S. Alumni, we know you have your own commemorative shirts tucked away too. Please share your memories and pictures with us on social media. It's always fun to see the old shirts!

Meet us at the Efterskole exhibition

Meet us at Efterskolemessen in Roskilde (Roskilde Kongrescenter) 25-26 January from 10-16. You can meet Olav our principal, Anette from the office/summer school and Marc from Marketing. It's going to be great!

Flashback to last year's Casino Weekend, we're doing the same this weekend.

Last year we also had Casino Weekend, which included the opportunity to learn how to play poker, see Casino Royal, and participate in this year's big REC poker tournament. It was a great success, with many students participating in this event. We hope that this weekend's Casino Weekend will be just as good.

Below is a small selection of images from last year's Casino Weekend.

Headmaster's column

Dear reader,

We have started teaching Cultural Studies in earnest 3 afternoons a week. The focus is on both planning the programme and especially the intercultural meetings on the trips in March.

We work hard to get students to build their own projects and engage in local issues that concern young people, such as the environment and sustainability. It's a challenge because first we have to break through the layer of holiday expectations and then the students' professional experiences from subjects such as social studies, religion and history must be put into play.

In the coming weeks, we'll be focusing on student counselling to ensure that all students have chosen their secondary education by 1 March.

For most, it's clear, while for others it's an almost insurmountable mountain to climb.

This weekend there's a Las Vegas atmosphere with casino and gambling on the programme. On Sunday, a group will be travelling to the Danish Basketball Championship final in Horsens.

We'll also be at the Efterskole fair in Roskilde and on Sunday there will be a guided tour for 55 families at the school.

Have a great weekend.
