28 May Face masks, lip sync battle & the story of the anchor
Dear reader,
Life is flowing again, and after-school life is flying by. Of course, there are few smiles these days. Both because we are back, but also because there are simply so many good activities. And it continues.
A few days ago, a student told me that it's like you appreciate being here more now - maybe because you know what it's not like to be in afterschool. On Wednesday, for the first time, we had the opportunity to have a community meeting that was not digital. The students were in family groups and the teachers made sure the guidelines were followed.
We're off to the week's news and great stories - you'll get them here.
The feeling of being back
On Saturday, we shared a video from the reopening week, and we'll end it here. You can very easily sense the joy of reunion, so watch below.
Lip sync battle - Students mime music
"Good eveeeening Europe.. or Ranum Efterskole College. Welcome to this year's Lin Sync Battle Grand Final," read the live video on Saturday. It was the start of this year's Lip Sync Battle event, which this year took place digitally because it was not possible to gather in the ballroom as we would have done otherwise. However, the participants were present - at a distance, of course - and the rest watched on the screens.
In the days leading up to the event, the students had filmed and mimed a song that they submitted to the competition. Not everyone can stand to be seen again (that's how it is when young people get free rein), but below you can see a selection of the participants. They were creative and well done,

Historical anchor - but what is history?
Students walk past the large anchor in front of the main building every day, and two of them have wondered why it's there. What's the story? Their curiosity piqued, they sought out Olav to get the story. They wrote the story below themselves based on what they found out.
"It all started with an event in Hirtshals, where an anchor was found by a fisherman whose daughter became lovers with a teacher at Ranum. The teacher told Olav about the anchor, and thus it came up at school. The anchor symbolises the feeling and action of casting anchor, as all the pupils have done at Ranum. It symbolises a place we have in Ranum that we can always come back to." - Kristian and Nicolai.
First real community gathering
The song "Give us back the light" is well known in the afterschool world, and in it there is a quote that describes very well the feeling we get when we are all together.
Community is born when I become us.
Give us back the light
It gives a strong sense of community to be together. So of course we have been looking forward to being together again.
2. last contact group time
We are entering a time when we will do things for the last time. This also applies to contact group time, and the last one is next week. This week, for many, it was spent outside with various activities. There is a lot to talk about, and for some it was, for example, what they dream of and how the time during quarantine has been.
Company donates 20,000 bandages to Ranum
Thursday morning the Ranum wagon rolled into the square in front of the main building. It came straight from Silkeborg, loaded with a very valuable item that will soon be on everyone's lips.
The company Envision Energy donates masks to schools, so Ning, our Chinese and Asian Cooking teacher, reached out to them to see if there was a possibility that we could also receive gauze. And it certainly was. We have received the many handkerchiefs and it is going to have a crucial impact on both our current students, summer school and future student teams.
Events next week starts with a holiday, and then we can start a week with, among other things, Water Sports Weekend, last contact group time and of course even more fun activities.
