Halloween, P2 Start-up & eSports Tournament

Dear reader,

Welcome to this week's news from Ranum. We take a look back at the week that was and turn the stories and activities that have been.

Among other things, we talk about a (un)pleasant Thursday evening, when parts of the school were transformed into a Haunted House, the start of the new subjects and a tournament in the basement.

First - Halloween. Thanks for reading.

Halloween: pumpkins, skeletons and Haunted House

Students got a surprise on Thursday night. Before they could go to dinner, they had to go through a spooky course that led them under the kitchen's basement. The screams from the cold concrete walls still ring out, and the decorations down there were really something. The cafe was filled with cobwebs, spiders and skeletons, making the experience even more authentic.

Our very talented pastry chef, Tanja, had made Halloween cakes for the occasion. Usually her cakes look delicious and inviting - just ready to eat. It wasn't quite the same here, but that was probably the point.

You can see the students' experiences at Instagram (click here), where they documented the trip through the Haunted House.

During the week, the students carved a lot of pumpkins, and many turned out really nice.

P2: A new period has started

Students have new activity and profile subjects and they are off to a good start this week.

As we know, there is neither snow nor mountains to ski on, so we have to be creative in preparing for the ski trip. During the first week, the students were divided into family groups, some of them on roller skis, others on roller skates and doing yoga. It is a big team that will hopefully go to Sweden, which means that not everyone can practice roller skiing at the same time. On the other hand, we have fun and the community is allowed to flourish.

eSport: WE WERE!

We have recently joined an after school tournament where we compete in CS:GO, DotA and LOL. If you're not up on the lingo, it's the computer games Counter Strike, Defense of the Ancients and League of Legends.

The first matches have already been played, and as you probably already read in the headline, we won. And we won convincingly. At least in CS, where the results were 16-2, 16-2. The students are working really well together and it will be exciting to follow their development.

Jonas, an esports student, says it went better than he had hoped. "We were quite nervous because the others looked mega professional with their logo and everything, but when the match (CS match, ed) started, we seemed to be pretty good," he says.

In the coming week we still have a lot of tourists, and luckily we have a team of students who are mega eager and skilled to be tour guides. On Tuesdays and Thursdays (and Sundays) families come to visit us to experience Ranum, and of course this is with all the reservations that can possibly be taken. For example, there are no tours of the rooms, no handouts, and we bring hand sanitizer all the way.

In addition, we continue to prepare for Imagination Week - more on that later.

The bus is filling up outside here in front of the main building, the rooms are cleaned and the weekend is thus ringing in.

Thank you for reading.

All the best,

Ranum Efterskole College
