Road Trip - USA East

Culture SubjectsRoad Trip - USA East
Roadtrip US East aims to give students an experience of the culture of the United States. The teaching and travelling will broaden their understanding of how the US has become the country and superpower it is today by working with the cultural and political history of the US. Through this, we will consider what life is like for individual Americans today. We will focus on the USA as a country of differences and the journey will focus on the differences between city life and country life.
On the journey, we will focus on intercultural encounters.
Academic programmes
The programme will consist of classroom instruction, individual projects that should prepare them to visit and fully benefit from the trip around the southeastern United States. The purpose of the visit is to gain understanding, knowledge and insight into one of the most influential cultures and geopolitical powers of our time.
Students create their own project before and after the trip, based on a SDG and their own experiences on the trip.
Before travelling, we apply for ESTA together with the students.
TRAVEL
The journey consists of visits to a number of cities. By its very nature, this is not a journey where we land somewhere - and have it as our base. We move in minibuses from place to place and will often only have one overnight stay in each place. We start in New York, where we work with history and city life. From NY we travel to Washington, where the focus is on the American Civil War and the US political situation both historically and currently. From here we head further south and probably visit Charleston/Savannah, where we will work with slavery. Further south we visit Orlando with the opportunity to see the Kennedy Space Centre and work with the space race. We end our journey in Miami. Here we'll see some of Miami's iconic sites and visit Everglades National Park, where it's time to get acquainted with America's spectacular nature.
Near Miami, we will visit a traditional outlet centre in the USA.
