You've probably seen "Coco" or heard of "Day of the Dead", but what else do you know about Mexico? For example, did you know that the world's largest pyramid is in Mexico, not Egypt? You'll learn all this if you choose Mexico as your culture subject.
The Lessons
As part of the preparation for the trip and the foreign culture, we will immerse ourselves in different topics of Mexican culture, traditions, religion, geography and history. We will prepare a presentation on a specific topic to be presented to the other students in the class. The class will strive to be hands-on.
The following points characterize the subject:
- Teambuilding
- Mexican gastronomy
- Group projects and presentations
- Mayan cultures
- History
- Mini language course
- Preparing for travel
You will also be required to research a topic of your choice before and during your trip, so that you can acquire and disseminate your new knowledge on the topic after your trip.
The trip
On this trip, you will discover the states of Yacatán and Quintana Roo on the Yucatan Peninsula on the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. We will see the Kukulkan pyramid, the Mayan temple at the archaeological site of Chichen Itza, cenotes and much, much more.
The purpose of the journey is to develop and push personal boundaries and form ourselves through experiences of the foreign culture. In addition, we will also marvel at the cultures of before our time and how a highly developed civilization is disappearing.
Corona: Restrictions, rules etc.
From https://mexico.um.dk/rejse-og-ophold/nycoronavirus-covid19:
Mexico has not introduced entry restrictions. This means that Danish citizens, foreigners with permanent residence in Denmark and business travellers can enter Mexico freely, regardless of the country they are entering from.
There are flights to Mexico from both the US and Europe. It is important that passengers who need to stop over in another country contact the embassy of that country or their airline for questions about transit entry restrictions.
The land border between Mexico and the United States is reopened in November 2021 to fully vaccinated persons.
For entry by air to Mexico, all passengers must create an account and complete the following health form no earlier than 12 hours before the time of departure. Completing the form is free of charge and should only be done via the official website at the link above.
Quarantine and testing rules
Mexico has not introduced any official rules on quarantine, vaccination or testing on entry into the country.
However, it is recommended that you self-quarantine for 10 days if you experience symptoms of COVID-19. Read more about the recommendations on self-isolation at coronasmitte.dk.
Coronapas
As Mexico has not introduced entry restrictions, there is no need to use the Danish coronapas.
Internal travel restrictions
Mexico has not imposed travel restrictions internally and domestic transport (air and bus routes) continues at normal capacity.
Transit options
It is possible to travel in transit through Mexico.
Safety:
It is important that you want a group trip where all activities take place together. All activities take place during the day and in the evening you are together in the hostel; playing games, relaxing, having fun, talking etc. In some places in Mexico you have to be careful about going out after dark. You should be aware of pickpockets and don't walk with your phone out when moving from A to B.
All safety instructions are reviewed with students prior to departure.
