Road Trip - USA West
Category
Culture SubjectsWestern United States
This culture course takes you on a journey through the west side of the United States. America is the land of opportunity, but it's also the land of contrasts. One day we can be driving in snow and the next walking around in a t-shirt.
On this journey, we'll experience both the opulent man-made consumer society, but also the diverse and marvellous nature that the USA also possesses.
We strive for cultural encounters where students meet other young people they can mirror themselves in.
Academic programmes
In the lessons, we work with American history and American and our own cultural understanding.
We work with prejudices about American culture and watch documentaries and plan personal projects based on the SDGs to present when we return from our trip.
Teaching is an interaction between informative and productive work.
Students will learn about the different cities we'll be travelling through. In addition, they help determine the programme for some days of the trip based on their own research and budgeting.
Before travelling, the goal is for students to have knowledge/insight into the following:
The Wild West, Native Destiny, California Gold Rush, American Nationalism, The Diverse American Nature and American School Culture.
THE JOURNEY ITSELF
We start in Nevada, drive through Arizona and end the tour in California. On the tour, we drive in passenger cars through the diverse landscapes that unfold in the different states.
We will drive through historical sites, seek out knowledge, talk to locals and meet peers on school visits. Students will be shocked and amazed by the diversity and gather information for their projects.
